Job Title: Advocacy Officer  

Reports to: Program Manager
Position Location: The position is located at the UCCF Office in Kampala, with some occasional travels where necessary.

The Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF) is a Non-government organization that was founded mainly by the Uganda Cancer Institute staff, Well-wishers and parents of children with cancer, and other concerned individuals. It was formed to support children and young person’s suffering cancer, by providing direct treatment and social support to children made vulnerable by limited resources, and to advocate for cancer control. UCCF is working mainly with the young people in schools to raise awareness about cancer with the support from the Uganda Cancer Institute and Ministry of Health.


University degree in Marketing - communication Economics, Social sciences or related development field from a duly recognized university or related area with at least 1 year of relevant experience working in a fundraising or advocacy role within a non for profit organization OR Diploma in Marketing or Communication with over 2 years of fundraising experience in a non for profit organization.

Duration: 12 months with potential for extension based on availability of funds

Job Purpose: To Support UCCF advocacy initiatives and  -implement the Resource Mobilization Strategy

Experience:  1 years of experience in; fundraising position, managing campaigns, liaison activities, research and stakeholder engagements. Including social media skills, abilities, knowledge and Strong proven i and negotiating skills.  

Skills Abilities and Knowledge;

  1. Strong written and verbal communication skills and fluency in English, other languages are added advantage good proposal and grant writing skills.
  2. Proven relationship building skills, with the ability to stimulate trust and loyalty from involved parties including working well with others.
  3. Basic skills in administrating and updating websites and social media platforms.
  4. Ability to mobilize and engage both individual and organizational networks
  5. A good understanding of the issues surrounding vulnerable children with cancer and a burden of cancer epidemic  in general
  6. A ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  7.  Computer literate and proficient at using email as a primary method of communication
  8. Ability to develop and present  present good reports and updates to the Program Manager  
  9. Motivation/ Outlook Pro-active and creative in identifying and developing new fundraising opportunities.
  10. Highly ethical individual who is passionate about fundraising for causes with impact  and committed to achieving high quality standards of work
  11. Well organized, self-directed, flexible and committed to achieving high and impactful standards.
  12. Results-oriented with the ability to be creative and innovative.

  15. Ensure familiarity with and adhere to all UCCF policies and procedures in particular the child protection policy.
  16. Undertake and apply learning from appropriate training and development programs.
  17. Undertake the role in a manner appropriate to the cultural context and within the local legal framework.


Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Implementing UCCF Resource Mobilization Strategy
  2. Assist Program Manager in designing, planning and implementing advocacy strategy and campaigns for UCCF programs.
  3. Organizing seminars, workshops, awareness activities; the officer shall also spend much of the time in correspondence with key stakeholders including, press and invitees as per UCCF Strategy.
  4. Write and send press releases, write seminar reports and keeping abreast   of   the in-house program activities
  5. Actively participate and represent the organization in various networks and stakeholder meetings position on various issues after in-house consultation.
  6. Support the  process  to  form  networks  with  various  stakeholders  such  as  development partners in the sector  donors,  NGOs,  private  sector  among others
  7. Assist Program manager in recording minutes of the meetings (where required), and preparation of organization’s reports for various purposes.
  8. and establish relationships with donors and lead in activities that will facilitate more engagements with stakeholders.
  9. Research and analyse donor calls for funding applications including expressions of interest and requests for proposals
  10. Lead on grants proposal development in consultation with the programs manager
  11. Develop innovative approaches in mobilizing non-financial resources locally and internationally and develop a strategy for obtaining this regularly
  12. Develop and execute strategies to reach funder segments, including creating supporting materials such as funding proposals
  13. Effectively link stake holder’s  interests with the organization’s Strategic and Programmatic priorities
  14. Work closely with program manager, patients support Officer, and other staff to provide seamless service and information to donors and prospects. Partners
