Children Caring About Cancer

Children Caring About Cancer

We noted  having children as active partners in fundraising worked well in other countries so we developed a concept for them to be fully involved as child messengers and advocates for cancer.

Children Caring about Cancer (3C) is a young people’s program of UCCF, that was conceived in 2010 and later piloted in 2011 .The pilot was at St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), Kings College Budo (KCB), Mt. St. Mary’s College Namagunga and Gayaza High School (GHS)- All in central Uganda. The mission is to reach everyone who cares about cancer to take action NOW, through the outreaches in schools, sports events, music dance and drama in addition to the annual 3C conferences.

Currently, the program has  reached over 110,000 young people directly and 220,000 guardians indirectly  around the country, with  presence in Western region ( Shema, Bushenyi, Mbarara districts ), Eastern region, (Soroti and Serere districts ), North Eastern region ( Moroto, and Napak districts), Northern region (Lira and Gulu districts ), Central region (Wakiso, Entebbe, Kampala, Mukono districts), and West Nile (Arua district).

There 3C advocates have been able to support patients at the Uganda Cancer Institute with items  like; sanitary pads, soap and tissue for the patients admitted at the Hospital and some cancer patient hostels in Kampala and, this has always gone a long way to supplementing on patients’ treatment as they face their road to recovery.
